I Think I Shall Never See...
I think that I shall never see...
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prestAgainst the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wearA nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree...

This is one of those poems they made us memorize and recite in school. (Back in the days when they did require us to memorize things.) It's amazing how much of thaqt stuff comes back to you with just a little prompt. I got through most of the poem just from memory!
me, too! I had to memorize it also. And I do think of it from time to time. One of my favorite views of a tree is underneath looking up with the sunlight filtering through the leaves.
thanks for sharing your experiences of this beautiful poem...this was the first i'd heard of it or i just don't remember it from school...
